Albert,
I would really like more information re:technique as to how you do your meditation. I have two autoimmune skin conditions and I am 100% sure that I can "cure" them if I only knew how. I have been doing deep relaxation based on breathing. It feels great and I can get very relaxed but it isn't resolving anything.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Michele

Your welcome Michele:

Getting relaxed will help you get focussed. You know how when you're really interested in something, you focus on it really well (think of a little kid watching a television show they're interested in). Once you become interested on what you're meditating on, other thought patterns will recede into the backgroud. So when you sit to meditate give your mind a little bit of time to do what it wants to do without fighting it, and then become interested in what you're trying to meditate on. Take this approach even if you're doing something such asking your mind: "What's going on here?"

Thanks Albert,
I know that there are repressed thoughts that are causing my skin to have problems. I can't imagine what I am repressing that I haven't already thought about. But obviously there are some issues.
Do you think doing relaxation would be helpful to get the meditation process started?
Thanks so much.
Michele

Michele,
What are your skin problems? I really suffer from my skin breaking out and occasional hives on my face - mostly just mild acne. My skin has got a little worse with my back getting better. I am not sure how to deal with this.

I've found some things that work for me. That doesn't mean that I'm wise enough to have the answers for other people. That said, here's some more on what works for me.

To begin with, my experience has shown me that this physical World "isn't" all there is. There is much, much more. I get answers from a place that my little ego based mind couldn't possibly come up with. If your condition has a cause that isn't physical, then it's probably possible to find an answer through meditation and soul searching.

Consider my case. I was involved with meditation/spiritual searching for a number of years. Along the way I got involved with a cult for a while. After leaving it I went through a period where I denied my spirituality all together. I sort of had to do this in order to find some distance from the false approaches and beliefs I picked up from the cult I was involved with.

I had physical pain of various kinds for several years. My number one pain was lower back pain sort of near lumbar 4 and lumbar 5 areas. I assumed my problem was physical.

One day I went to a book store and one of Dr. Sarno's books stood out. Very quickly it made sense to me that my back pain etc wasn't due to physical problems. I started to find some relief very quickly. My number one problem spot behind lumbar 4 and 5 hasn't bugged me since this past January.

My approach included convincing myself thoroughly that my problem isn't physical, resuming physical activity, and trying to find out what kind of psychological issues I might have. I was so sick of pain and how it was ruining my life, I was willing to look at any psychological issue that was effecting me. I'd sit with my eyes close and implore my unconscious mind to show me what might be troubling me. I'd tell it that I'm the boss and I want to know what's going on. Gradually, without expecting to, I started to have spiritual experiences. Eventually I realized that spirituality as a whole isn't untrue, just my limited ideas about it. The energy I wrote about on another post stopped causing me lower back pain, when I stopped blocking it with my unwillingness to acknowledge the spiritual part of my life.

Regarding what might work for you, don't underestimate what is inside of you. Ask your unconscious mind, soul, inner self, however you think of the unconscious part of you; to provide you with guidance.

One thing though. You have to be willing to listen. If there's some psychological/emotional issue (issues) you aren't willing to look at and deal with, your inner self won't be able to help you. I found that it won't force you. It'll will only guide you.

If you procede this way it might not happen over night. It might take place in stages.

On my other post I wrote that I analyze my dreams. Lately I found that I also get imagery while I meditate. Some of this imagery gives me clues as to what I need to meditate on.

P.S. What's the story behind dreams? Where do they come from and why is it they can helf us so much when we give them the chance to do so?
