Posted - 06/27/2005 : 15:44:07 Hi, everyone,
I know my stomach flu ISN'T TMS, but just curious if anyone has found any remedies to help soothe a sour stomach that I haven't already tried. Thus far, I've tried: Saltine crackers, Emetrol, flat ginger ale, peppermint tea, and ginger capsules (caused horrible heartburn and did nothing for nausea). Am I missing anything else that might work? I'm getting desperate. This is the ninth day of feeling like I want to puke my guts out (but don't). My mother was just here for my daughter's bat mitzvah and she has had the exact same thing for nearly two weeks. Any ideas would be welcome!

Posted - 06/28/2005 : 11:11:32 Hi, Susie and Polly,
Thanks for your input. I wasn't thinking it was TMS, just that bad stomach flu that I hear is going around. I know how my mind operates and the minute I think it's TMS, then I'll start thinking "When is this going to end?" just like I did with the dizziness (which, by the way, hasn't been around since the nausea has been here). Perhaps it is TMS and I need to refocus my thoughts. It has definitely grabbed my attention - and why shouldn't it? Feeling like you're going to hurl 24/7 is enough to grab anybody's attention. It is funny how my mother got it and I got it and everybody else managed to escape it, even my husband who has the closest most intimate contact with me. Now that you mention it...I better start journaling!

Posted - 06/28/2005 : 10:59:34 Laura, I had the same problem several years ago. I would wretch but not actually vomit. This too will pass. Just part of the syndrome. I hated it. It is very interesting that your mother experienced the same symptom when it came time to see you. |

Posted - 06/28/2005 : 09:17:42 Laura, I've had bad bouts with nausea. If it's really bad, I take dramamine. It seems to settle it down. It comes in a non-drowsy formula and is over the counter.
It's a horrible feeling. If you can't fight it with TMS methods (mine is now gone completely) don't be a hero. Get relief. I know Sarno would agree.

Posted - 06/27/2005 : 21:16:35 Thanks, Baseball,
I had thought of that but I know that stuff makes you really tired. I've got this drug phobia - it's a loss of control thing - so I never go the drug route. It would probably help me though. I guess if I get desperate enough I won't have much choice. Thanks for your input!

Posted - 06/27/2005 : 19:29:51 Hi Laura.
If your Nausea is really bad, prescription phenergan (promethazine) is really fast acting and effective.Unfortunately, the suppositories work better than the pills.
It's the stuff they put in Codeine cough syrup to keep people from heaving.I never knew it existed until recently(by itself).I keep a couple around, because periodically I don't eat all day and than waaaaaaaaay over eat at my one meal a day(usually dinner).....sometimes I haven't got time to be Nauseous.I know it is often stress induced, and when I have had time can TMS it away, but if I have to be at work 60 feet in the sky,I can't afford to be Nauseous.
Just and idea.
peace

Posted - 06/27/2005 : 18:07:59 Thanks, Louise. My husband suggested the same thing. Actually, I read somewhere that someone got relief from sucking on sour candy. So, I just forced myself to get dressed and go to the local candy store, where I bought some sour apple licorice belts. I walked around the nice air conditioned mall, people watching and window shopping, and ate my apple candy. My stomach is a bit improved. I may, however, go buy some Pepto next.

Posted - 06/27/2005 : 16:55:24 My mother's standard remedy was the old pink standby - Pepto Bismol. If you don't like the taste, try swallowing the pills. |
