Posted - 11/28/2019 : 10:57:37 I keep hearing people who talk about having to do the "TMS work", like having to journal. I've read all four of the Good Doctor's books, twice each and don't recall any great emphasis on a need to journal--maybe it's mentioned but I don't recall it being a big deal. That seems like more of a "goodist" notion along with "work will set you free".
Recovery from TMS--if it can be termed "recovery"--maybe one symptom at a time--is not about doing some deep emotional archeology. Dr. Sarno says it's about changing one's mind on the source of the pain--that it emenates from the unconscious mind and latches onto a body part that can include a gray matter emotional part causing a DISTRACTION from what's really bothering you Bunky?
So, all you have to do is read any of the Good Doc's four books, grasp the concept and CHANGE YOUR MIND!--he called it KNOWLEDGE THERAPY. The TMS goodist makes us feel we have to labor at it. Dr. Sarno said when you feel the pain--stop and think psychologically about what life situation(s) is causing the need for the DEFENSE MECHANISM to protect from dealing with the problem head-on. Or, just be thankful for TMS as a PROTECTOR from having to deal with what the unconscious mind has decided for us is the even more painful emotional issue masked by the TMS pain symptom.

Unfortunately, Dr. Sarno's solid, Western-oriented teachings have been "fundamentally transformed" (hijacked) by a few New Age, crystal gazing, woo-woo Aquarians, many of whom can be found hanging out at other TMS sites, giving themselves attaboys. The good doctor's prescriptions for healing are straight forward and the Knowledge Cure does work, if pursued with will and determination.
YUP! The GOOD DOCTOR'S "cure" is available in any one of his four books and the many books by his devotees who've been "cured" and been generous enough to write about their personal experiences such as Steven Ozanich in his TMS text "THE GREAT PAIN DECEPTION" and Nicole Sachs in her "TRUTH" book, two TMS authors who have come by here (and BTW, were surprisingly initially greeted with great derision at a site devoted to TMS!).
"The Meaning of Truth: embrace your truth. create your life." by Nicole J. Sachs, LCSW
"The Great Pain Deception: Faulty Medical Advice Is Making Us Worse" by Steven Ray Ozanich
Or, even the shortest TMS book ever written at only 60 pages : "DR. JOHN SARNO'S TOP 10 HEALING DISCOVERIES" also by Steve Ozanich.
The "work" doesn't have to be a long drawn out program--it's more enlightenment--curling up with a good TMS book in while in the throes of pain on a couch, accepting Dr. Sarno's KNOWLEDGE PENICILLIN--having an ah-ha moment--the pain emanates from the brain--slowly get off the couch, and get back to normal activity--just do it!--the body is strong, it's the mind that can be kinda' weak if you believe what "they" say. If you have to prove it to yourself by doing. Start by reading a book--maybe twice for a TMS booster.
