I've just been reading another of those back care articles - you know the kind I'm talking about - 'Lift with care, Check your car, Do back strengthening exercises etc, etc'

But at the end of the article, almost as a throwaway few lines, the writer talks about a holistic health practitioner that she once interviewed. I really like that healer's take on back pain.

Here's what she wrote -

" Years ago I interviewed a holistic health practitioner who explained the theory that back pain can be a sign from the body that we feel unsupported. Burdened with too much to do and little help, our main support, the spine, protests and literally gives out. Now, this sounds like mumbo-jumbo but I have observed very often since, that a friend will be complaining of the burden of responsibility she has one day and the next be flat on her back in utter agony. Of course, it could be that under pressure we tense our backs and lift heavy items carelessly. But, whatever the reason may be, watch out the next time you get the feeling, "I'm doing everything". Stop and delegate - for the sake of your back."
