Posted - 05/25/2005 : 15:05:34 Here in New York on the front page of the Daily News the big story is how Alex Rodriguez (Yankees 3rd baseman and best player in baseball, for those who don't know) is in therapy.
For whatever reason our society deems therapy to be a bad thing. Something must be wrong with A-ROD if he needs therapy.
I think what he's doing is great -- admitting he's in therapy, being proud of it, and donating to charity to benefit mental health programs.
Yet, the public gasps at such a revelation -- how can it be that the best player in baseball, on the best team in baseball, making 25 million dollars per year needs therapy?
It's a sad sad world... |

Posted - 05/26/2005 : 20:50:15 It was funny that this was the top story of the day (front page and sports) in NYC. I did not, however, sense any negativity in the story. A-Rod has gotten little or no good press in NY or anywhere because of his 25 million an year contract. The only reason he has gotten good press this year is because he leads the majors is HR's and RBI's and the Yanks are winning again. If this wasn't the case the front page would have read "A-ROD CRAZY" or something. The New York press hates good guys that lose (ie. Mike Piazza) and loves bad guys who win (ie George Stienbrenner)and I doubt A-Rod would have released this information if he was still on the NY S**t list. -Al

Posted - 05/25/2005 : 16:51:57 Dave I agree it is unfortunate that we place such a negative stigma on a process that allows us to understand what is really going on with us. It is symptomatic of why TMS is of epidemic proportions in this country (and others). Maybe A Rod doing something like this will actually be helpful in getting people to realize the value of therapy. Let's hope |
